Jerry Seinfeld 'pays out' Adelaide

Jerry Seinfeld received a warm welcome as he hit the stage in Adelaide for the first time over the weekend, but it seems the feelings weren't mutual!

"Oh my God, Adelaide! You know how many years I’ve been wanting to come to Adelaide?" The 63-year-old was heard asking the audience, having kicked off his first Australian stand-up tour in 20 years on Friday.

Having never made it to the South Australia capital before, in typical Jerry fashion retorted, "Never. I’ve never wanted to come to Adelaide….And yet I’m thrilled to be here."

It's not the first time the Seinfeld star has taken a swipe at an Australian city during his shows, causing a flurry of controversy in the late 90s when describing Melbourne as "the anus of the world."

Despite insisting it was just a mere reference to Melbourne's "geographic location" Jerry still apologised for any offense caused at the time.
