Jim Carrey has released a new statement as the legal battle surrounding his ex-girlfriend Cathriona White’s suicide continues.
The late Irish make-up artist’s mother, Brigid, and her ex-husband, Mark Buron, are suing Carrey for wrongful death, claiming that he supplied Cathriona with a mixture of pills that resulted in her fatal overdose.
Cathriona’s mother has also accused the comedian of giving her daughter multiple sexually transmitted diseases.
Taking to Twitter on Friday, the 55-year-old movie star has shared a message, in which he says he will "not give in a second time to fraudulent charges initiated by Cat's husband in name but not substance, and her estranged mother".
His statement is a counter-complaint against Cathriona's attorney Filippo Marchino, his office The X Law Group, as well as Mark and Brigid, in which he alleges that their lawsuit is another extortion attempt against him.
In the statement, Jim says: "Unfortunately, I made the mistake three years ago of giving in and settling false claims made against me by Mr. Marchino, on behalf of Cat, as mounting a public defense is a very costly and painful process".

He continues: "At the time I felt Cat was being exploited by Marchino. Since this new case was filed, I have discovered the depth of deception behind those false claims, the kind of deception decent people fall for, because to us, such behavior is unimaginable.
“I will not give in a second time to these same fraudulent charges initiated by Cat’s husband in name but not substance Mark Burton, and her estranged mother.
"Nor am I responsible for what these desperate characters have inadvertently unearthed about the the woman I adored. I was clearly blinded by my affection. Regardless, I will hold a place of empathy, and forgiveness for Cat and continue to focus on the many blessings in this life."
A statement from Mark, Bridig and Marchino's attorney Michael Avenatti has since been released to PEOPLE, reading: "Jim Carrey is so desperate to avoid the public knowing the truth about his own outrageous conduct, that he has now resorted to outlandish accusations against innocent people. As his interview from a few weeks ago shows, the guy is incoherent and unhinged. He needs help".
Jim first met girlfriend Cathriona in 2012. She was found dead at the age of 30 after a prescription drug overdose in September 2015.
