John Edward denies giving Paul Burrell message from Princess Diana
With additional reporting by Emma Shepherd.
Medium John Edward has spoken out about the psychic reading he gave Princess Diana’s butler, Paul Burrell, while in the I’m A Celeb jungle.
John was slammed for channelling the late royal, but has now told Be that he had no idea who it was that was coming through to him.
“I’ve got to tell you that I did not know,” he said, explaining he had not been told Paul had worked for the iconic royal.
“So when I walked out of the jungle people started telling me what it all meant, and that Paul used to work for Diana, my immediate reaction was crap,” he continued, adding he knew immediately who “people are going to think” sent the message.
The British butler had been left gobsmacked by the reading back in March, but it had left viewers of the show unconvinced.
Actually, I’m convinced John Edward is VERY talented. He had to read a lot to come up with those incredible 'revelations.' #ImACelebrityAU

I'd be less sceptical if John Edward handed Paul Burrell a cease and desist letter from Diana's ghost. #ImACelebrityAU

Paul is such a fraud he'd say yes to anything this psychic says that no one else can validate #ImACelebrityAU

John — who is in Australia to promote his tour later in the year — also said that he referred to the person sending the message as a “he”.
The celebrity psychic went on to add that he would never have taken the job if he’d know about the connection, in an interview with News.com.au.
“That’s like sitting down with Yoko Ono, you would expect John Lennon to come through. It’s like sitting down with a Jackson, you’d expect Michael to come through,” he told the website.
“That would be a no for me. If somebody asked me to do that, that would have been a flat out absolutely not. And definitely not on camera.”
While Paul has yet to comment on the medium’s latest comments, his fellow junglemate Lisa Oldfield has taken to Instagram to express her anger at his apparent backtracking.
“He very much implied it was Princess Diana,” Lisa wrote. “There were so many references to Diana. Every other campmate and the footage from @imacelebrityau would back this up.”
“It left Paul very upset and shaken,” she finished. “Why would this guy change the story now?”
