Karl Stefanovic's ex Cassandra Thorburn wows at red carpet event

Just days after her first TV interview since her split from ex Karl Stefanovic, a very happy Cassandra Thorburn couldn’t stop smiling as she attended a red carpet event in Sydney.

The mother of three was glowing when she arrived at The Australian Women’s Weekly’s Women Of The Future event on Wednesday.

In a sleeveless orange jumpsuit, Cass rubbed shoulders with Karl’s current Today co-host Georgie Gardner, as well as his former co-host Lisa Wilkinson.

Earlier this week Cass delivered a very telling interview when she spoke about her children and her decision to forgo a career to support her now ex-husband’s.

Appearing on The Morning Show on rival TV network Channel Seven on Monday, Cass said the breakdown of her and the Channel Nine star’s 21-year marriage was “particularly challenging for the children, especially when it was so public”.

Karl and Cass share three children Jackson, 18, Ava, 12, and River, 10, and former TV producer Cass said it was witnessing her own kids’ struggle that inspired her to write a children’s book with the profits helping families going through separation.

“It’s part of what me and my children have been through which led me to writing this book,” she explained to The Morning show hosts Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies.

And as well as educating others, she’s ready to step out from behind the shadows of her Gold Logie-winning ex-husband.

“Now, I got to write a children’s book and I’m stepping out to say that I feel comfortable within myself and I’m telling others to be comfortable in their own skin,” she explained. “Pursue what you want to, regardless of what is going on in the sideline.

Back in 2011 Karl famously thanked Cassandra, who put her career on hold to look after the family, during his Gold Logie acceptance speech.

When asked on Monday if she missed working as a TV producer and journalist as she did before having children, Cassandra shared a dignified response, making it about her children and not her ex.

“Do I miss it? No, I don’t. I am not sure what would have happened if I had done it differently,” she admitted.

“But a lot of working mums can say if I had stayed at home, would my child had turned out different? And vice versa. When women stay-at-home and they think about work… There is no point looking back and wandering what could have been.”

Karl, 44, left Cassandra in October 2016 and months later, started a relationship with shoe designer, Jasmine Yarbrough.
