Why Kate wouldn’t take off her coat for Norwegian royals

Kate and Wills sat down for a chat with Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit on Friday, but there was something a little amiss about the meeting.

While the Norwegian royals are seen sitting comfortably in the room in a photo taken of the moment, the Duchess of Cambridge is still wearing her heavy, Dolce and Gabbana coat buttoned all the way up to the top.

Surely it wasn’t as chilly in the royal household as the -8 degrees outside; so why was Kate, who is six months pregnant, still sitting in her jacket?

Well, according to OK! magazine, it has nothing to do with temperature and everything to do with royal protocol.

Apparently it’s deemed quite ‘unladylike to undress in public’, which is why we usually see photos of royal women dressed in coats and then in what’s underneath, but never see them shedding the top layer.

It’s just one of a slew of etiquette rules that Kate is now well-versed in, but that soon-to-be princess Meghan Markle will have to learn.

Meghan’s already made alterations to her style since she began dating Harry, mostly ditching those short hemlines for something more conservative.

Meanwhile, Kate and Wills have been touring Sweden and Norway this past week, where they’ve visited schools, snow fields and even a sculpture park, as well as enjoying some more formal occasions with the other European royals.
