Keira: I didn't know who my mum was

Keira Maguire has opened up about growing up in a cult with 63 siblings, admitting she had no idea who her mother was until she was six.

“I don’t know if you know my story, but my mum was in a cult,” Keira confided to her I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! co-star Lisa Curry.

“My dad was the leader of it. There were guys and girls in it and they had all come from broken homes and gone through certain things. It got to the point where he started to build a family and they were all of his wives,” Keira said.

“I didn't know who my mum was until I was six. I didn’t even know what a mum was,” she confessed, adding that her mum left the cult with her when she was six and put her into school.

The reality TV star said she hated the fact she knew she “wasn’t normal” and wished she had grown up like a regular child.

She admitted she use to get teased for being part of the cult, which she was born into.

“You’ve got to remember there were nine wives,” she told Lisa, who couldn’t believe 63 kids came from one father.

“Holy s**t!” Lisa said.

When Lisa asked Keira where her dad was now, she revealed he “passed away three years ago.”

“It kind of felt like a relief,” Keira confessed. “I didn't have to explain about my dad. Although it sounds bad it kind of made me feel better.”

She added that she didn’t like to call him dad because he was never there for her.

Lisa then tried to make Keira feel better and told her: “We all have sh*t in our lives and it shapes us in some way.”
