Keith Urban has offered some advice to Demi Lovato, after the US singer was rushed to hospital last week following a drug overdose.

The Australian musician, who has been open about his own battle with drug use in the past, said it’s important for 25-year-old Demi to have a strong support network during this difficult time.

“I don’t know anything about her personally,” the 50-year-old told Richard Wilkins during Channel Nine’s Today Extra on Monday.

“Just good people around her, and a willingness to want to live a different way if that’s what she wants to do,” Nicole Kidman’s husband added.

Demi is still in hospital after suffering “complications” following last week’s apparent drug overdose.

“Demi wasn’t doing well over the weekend,” a source told People. “She came down with a fever and showed signs of an infection.”

Though her issues are reportedly “very common” after a drug overdose, she will apparently need to stay in the hospital for a few more days.

Demi is expected to make a full recovery, which she is doing with a very select group of people by her side.

Meanwhile in 2016 Keith opened up about his demons, revealing he first tried cocaine in the early nineties when his housemate offered him a “massive pipe”.

“I’d never had it, it looked so, so I took it,” he told Rolling Stone.

“Things didn’t immediately go pear-shaped, but that was the beginning of it.”

Admitting that cocaine and ecstasy were his “thing”, Keith spent a few months at the Betty Ford Center in California after tying the knot with Nicole back in June 2006.

It was his third time in rehab within eight years.

Now a proud father-of-two with a solid music career under his belt, Keith has insisted he’s keen to maintain sobriety, and doesn’t want to revisit that chapter of his life.
