Mel Greig: Did you know this Instagram secret?

MIND BLOWN. I don’t know how long this feature has been around and if I’m the last person boarding the train but, did you know that you can unsend direct messages on Instagram?

This is a different feature to sending a photo that quickly disappears and can only been seen once, similar to Snapchat.

It’s been bringing a lot of joy to horny singles all over the world but unsending messages is something I’ve only just discovered and if I’m honest wish that I knew this a year ago.

Picture yourself at 2am and you’ve knocked the lid off a few bottles of wine and you think it’s a brilliant idea to let your crushes know what you think of them.

Or maybe you find the courage to send a break up message or tell a toxic friend ‘Bye Felicia’.

It’s basically like writing something in a foreign language because the spelling and grammar errors are unreadable.

Funnily enough the swear words seem to go through just fine though so it kind of reads like this ‘Youfhfhdhgd as*hole I hate you dgsghfgfdjhsgjfgjs’.

At the time you think you’ve nailed it and you’re winning at life. Until you wake up the next morning and see what you’ve done.

There’s nothing worse than having message regret on the weekend and you ask yourself why, why did I write that?

Well if you wake up early enough and beat them to reading the message you can actually unsend it.

They may have already seen it, but you can unsend it in the hope they haven’t and then it’s basically not real.

Here’s how you do it:

  1. Tap on the direct message icon
  2. Go to the conversation containing the message you want to unsend (even if you only have one eye operating at this time, because for some reason it’s way easier squinting with one eye to read when you are tipsy)
  3. Tap and hold the message
  4. Copy and unsend options will then come up and you tap unsend

We’ve all done it at some point – written something we regret and I’m the first person to put my hand up and say that I am an embarrassment to myself.

Too many drinks and high emotions and you get way too honest and confrontational.

I’m far better at adulting these days but don’t kick yourself if you’ve done it. This feature is basically having your best friend there 24/7 to stop you from writing stupid things.
