Kyle Sandilands denies being 'suicidal' after mystery illness

Kyle Sandilands has returned to the air after his mystery illness, reassuring listeners that rumours he’s “suicidal” are not true.

The KIIS FM radio host addressed his recent health issues on his breakfast show, revealing he was suffering from migraines as a result of having sleep apnoea — a sleeping disorder which causes breathing to repeatedly stop and start.

“Can I just clarify for everyone who’s kept texting, ringing, showing up unannounced… I’m not suicidal,” he said. “Nothing’s wrong with me. I was actually ill.”

The 47-year-old then went on to explain he was “feeling great” after having terrible migraines last week that meant he was unable to work.

“I’m on blood pressure medication, I’ve got sleep apnoea, you know, I’m a fat thing,” he said. “I get into this cycle of gasping for breath, not getting enough oxygen and getting a migraine.”

But while Kyle appeared to downplay the seriousness of his health, Beau Ryan — who is filling in for co-host Jackie O as she’s now off sick — admitted to “thinking the worst”.

The shock jock said Jackie was so concerned, she showed up at his house on Friday unannounced.

“She was dinging on the bell apparently, but I was at the doctors,” he explained. “Just appeared, no text, nothing.”

Concern for his health was sparked last week when Kyle’s girlfriend, Imogen Anthony, posted online that he was “extremely sick”.

“My family received terrible news yesterday… my partner is extremely sick,” she wrote on her Instagram account.

Sleep apnoea is a serious medical condition, caused when the walls of the throat come together during sleep and blocking off the airway, according to Better Health.

Back in June Kyle was urged to go to emergency immediately, after revealing a symptom on air.

After complaining about a strange vibration in his right leg, the 46-year-old was told by a caller that he needed to “get to emergency ASAP”.

“The vibrating leg is a symptom of a blood clot,” she said. “You need to get that checked out as soon…” but before she could finish, Kyle cut her off.
