Lena Waithe's statement of pride at Met Gala 2018
Actress Lena Waithe sure knows how to make a statement.
The actress, who was the first black woman to win an Emmy for comedy writing at the 2017 ceremony, has now claimed another first – wearing a pride flag cape to the Met Gala.
The theme this year was ‘Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’, and what better way to interpret catholicism than wearing the symbol for LGBTQ rights.
According to Vanity Fair, stylist and E! presenter Brad Goreski said he had been messaging with the 34-year-old who said of her Carolina Herrera look, “This is for all the legendary children.”
The actress, producer and screenwriter was interviewed in Vanity Fair last month and spoke about a line she was to say at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Ceremony:
“Being born a gay Black female is not a revolutionary act. Being proud to be a gay Black female is.”
