So, coffee only works if you’ve had enough sleep.

If you’ve stayed up way past your bedtime binging on reality TV, the obvious go-to the next morning is a triple shot expresso.

Not so, according to that that thing we like to call ~science~ and ~research~, they say if you’re not getting enough sleep then your morning coffee’s doing nada.

That’s right, zilcho, nada, diddly-squat (but what would scientist know, amiright?).

But, seriously, a recent study has determined that the effects of coffee only work if you have the occasional late night. If you’re only getting 5 hours a sleep repeatedly then you’re coffee isn’t going to do anything.

The study looked at 48 participants who slept for 5 hours per night for 5 days. Each day they were given 200mg of caffeine. During the first two days, their alertness improved, but after that there was no performance-enhancing effect.

So in short, a coffee isn’t going to magically make up for your Love-Island marathon and have you all bright eyed and bushy tailed in the AM if you're doing it on the reg. Looks like we wasted $3.50 this morning.
