Over half of Britons want Prince William (not Charles) to be the next king

A new poll has revealed that more than half of people living in Britain want Prince William to be the next king, instead of Prince Charles.

According to a study by Opinium research, 54 per cent would prefer if the throne bypassed Prince Charles and went to his 34-year-old son, Prince William.

However Prince William appears to be the favourite successor to the throne with the people, according to this poll.

Findings also indicated that 60 per cent of women wanted William as their next king, compared to 47 per cent of men.

Only 25 per cent of Britons supported Charles in the poll, while 72 per cent thought the Britain is perceived more positively because of the monarchy.

Two-thirds of people wanted to preserve the institution, meaning William can rest easy that one day he will indeed become king.

"As we saw last year, the majority of us show an unwavering loyalty towards the monarchy," Opiniuim's James Crouch told the Daily Mail.

"Perhaps it is unsurprising in light of the recent political instability that the nation remains wedded to its most enduring institution.

"There might be serious debate around the monarchy’s place in future years, and the solid two thirds opposed to a republic is not guaranteed to last forever."
