Gina Liano: What to do if you're dating a mummy's boy who won't leave home

Look ladies, I know it’s a lot easier said than done, but my best piece of relationship advice is you shouldn’t dive in headfirst.

It’s so tempting to fall madly in love and start imagining the perfect future together, but trust me, it’s much better to sit back, assess everything and see if it’s going to happen for you.

If you don’t, you might end up with someone who wants to live in his mum’s basement until he’s 40 which we all know is just a bit too creepy.

If you’re with a partner who won’t move in with you because you think he’s a spoiled mummy’s boy, we’ve got a couple of problems here.

First off, you need to be with someone who you can plan a future with. You need to be on the same page. I can see how that would be pretty hard if your partner’s mum still cooks and cleans for him!

Secondly, it’s really important to have a good relationship with your potential in-laws, especially if you want to have kids. Think of all the babysitting and help you get when you’re short on cash! I’m sure calling him a mummy’s boy won’t help, and he – and his mum – won’t appreciate that. You need to respect the relationship he has with his family.

If you need to apply pressure when it comes to living with your lover, this is a big problem. If he’s not willing to move out with you, it might be time to move on... but that’s really up to you.
