The charity day was set up to raise money for the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund, which aims to support victims of terrorism, emergencies and natural disasters.

According to the charity's website, on September 11, 2001, 658 Cantor Fitzgerald friends and colleagues and 61 Eurobrokers employees were lost in the World Trade Center terrorist attack.

Their deaths left their families struggling not only emotionally but also financially and the charity was set up to help out.

Since then, the charity has distributed over $180 million to over 800 families and 932 children of the victims of the tragedy.

"Every year on Charity Day, Cantor Fitzgerald and BGC Partners honor those who perished on 9/11 by distributing 100% of global revenues to the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund," the website says.

"Grants are then individually distributed to hundreds of charities worldwide. Since its inception, Charity Day has raised approximately $125 million globally."

Back in August, Beatrice quit her long-term job at New York investment firm Sandbridge Capital in order to work on her own start-up.

A source told the Daily Mail: "She is creating a start-up consultancy backed by, and in association with, the group she worked with. She and some other people have set up a consultancy business under the auspices of Sandbridge Capital.

"She was working, she resigned and is now concentrating her efforts on this start-up. She wanted to be more entrepreneurial, so she has set up her own unit within the group, but as a separate unit.

"Beatrice is a young girl making her own way in the world and finding her feet. She should be applauded for striking out on her own, not vilified."

Buckingham Palace said: "Princess Beatrice continues to pursue a career in business.

"Beyond this we have never commented on individual employers. We would not comment on how the princess is spending her private time."

Since then she has reportedly split from her long-term boyfriend Dave Clark.

The duo had been dating for a decade but the British royal is said to have called time on their relationship following make-or-break talks over whether they should get married.

A source explained: "After ten years together, Beatrice and Dave had to wonder why they were not married.

"They talked it through and decided to take time apart to reflect on the future. They remain friends and the decision to break up was mutual."

The 27-year-old Princess is reported to have been disappointed that Dave, 32, never asked her to marry him after she moved to the US to be with him.

However, the Princess' mother, Sarah Ferguson, is said to be shocked by the news.
