Spring has sprung and short of keeping a can of deodorant in your handbag and being on high spray alert, there’s not much you can do about your perspiration problem. Or is there?

According to researchers at Sydney’s Macquarie University, what you eat can affect the smell of your sweat, with a study looking at 43 men and what they smelled like in relation to their diet.

The men were told to shower with water for the first day of the study, before donning a new T-shirt the next day and doing at least an hour of exercise without hitting the shower. Nine lucky women were then told to sniff the shirts and rank the smell.

In findings that are sure to encourage everyone to eat their greens, the study found the men who ate fruit and vegetables smelled the best, with sniffers using the words “sweet” and “floral” to describe the sweat.

Meat, egg and soy eaters were also found to have an inoffensive smell.

It’s believed that sweat can actually send out signals about your health, so the better you eat, the better you smell to others and prospective mates.

Something to consider the next time you’re cooking dinner for the boyf.
