"These people are wearing crazy masks and fake machetes ahead of Halloween, trying to scare people. It shouldn't be allowed, especially in these days of terrorism," he said.

"This has nothing to do with our business."

Coastal Caring Clowns, an organisation on the Sunshine Coast who visit sick kids in hospital and schools, also told the ABC that they were concerned for their own safety following the attacks.

"We have to think how we react because in the public, we would see the clown and somebody might think 'Oh that's a scary clown, get him'," George Farmer, president of Coastal Caring Clowns told The ABC.

"We don't go out alone to visit places, we have to travel together, we might have to look at taking our makeup up down when we go home."

Even fast-food joint McDonald's has been forced to send their mascot, Ronald McDonald, into hiding in light of the recent attacks.

According to new.com.au, the restaurant is being “thoughtful in respect to Ronald McDonald’s participation in community events” due to the “current climate around clown sightings in communities.”
