But for Hannah Kyle from Northern Ireland, it was a broken pelvis following a serious car accident five weeks earlier that threatened to derail her big day.

Determined to tie the knot with her childhood sweetheart Stuart Patterson in their adopted home of Ontario, Canada, Hannah’s walk up the aisle turned out to be one of the most moving moments of the day when her devoted groom lifted her out of her wheelchair and tenderly carried her down the aisle.

Video posted to photographer Emily Suzanne Harris’ Facebook page went viral, with Hannah revealing the wedding gave her “something to fight for”.

“I was very upset and thought my day was going to be ruined," Hannah told The Belfast Telegraph.

"I suffered a lot of injuries and was in a lot of pain, but moving the wedding never crossed my mind. Our families were flying over for the wedding from Northern Ireland.”

While the wedding went off without a hitch, Hannah, who recovered slowly, reveals she was a bundle of nerves when Stuart picked her up to bring her to the altar.

"I was telling him how nervous I was and warned him not to rip my dress!" she admits.
