Are the Illuminati behind the ‘killer clown’ craze?

While no one has actually been killed yet, the series of sightings of creepy ‘killer clowns’ has left everyone around the world feeling pretty shaken.

Innocent bystanders, who witnessed people dressed as clowns wielding chainsaws and hammers, first reported the sightings in August in South Carolina in the United States.

Since then, more people have been terrorised all around the world – including Australia, Canada, U.K., Norway, Chile and New Zealand.

But exactly why is it happening? And why now, when clown phobias and scary clown films have been around for decades?

Ronald McDonald is behind it

Some people are blaming McDonald's famous clown, Ronald McDonald.

One conspiracy blog described him a satanic symbol and another says that a recent Japanese ad for the food chain shows him acting in a particularly peculiar way, and it may also be behind the fad.

There’s some debate at the authenticity, but McDonalds announced it’s mascot will be keeping a lower profile.

Maybe movie apps like Netflix and Showbox are causing people to watch scary movies more frequently and mimic the behaviour.

Could Jared Leto's recent role as The Joker in Suicide Squad be to blame?

It’s a Hollywood publicity stunt

Some bloggers believe producers in Hollywood want to reproduce movies such as Stephen King's It, so they started creepy clown sightings to drill up buzz but then things turned sinister.

However, the team at New Line Cinema has denied having anything to do with the disturbing trend.

And Australian film company Monster Pictures has also officially denied any connection ahead of their Monster Pictures Halloween release of Rob Zombie’s latest horror film, 31.

"It has been suggested by several unscrupulous sources that these so-called ‘CREEPY CLOWN’ incidences are part of a campaign designed to promote the Monster Pictures Halloween release of Rob Zombie’s latest horror film, 31 – this is simply not true," their official statement read.

In 2014, a far-less widespread movement was believed to have seen a handful of scary clowns frighten residents in California, as part of an innocent photography project.

But then things apparently then got a bit out of hand when locals saw his clown photos online and decided to join in themselves.

It’s social media’s fault

Those wanting to boost their social media presence are doing so by dressing up and filming clown videos that then go viral.

It's two weeks until Halloween, so we can only assume some people will want to get into costume by painting their face white and put on a red nose.

However, numerous events for kids and adults have banned anyone from dressing as a clown from entering, including at the Old Gippstown Halloween Spooktacular event in Victoria.
