She stood by her footballer fiancé Buddy Franklin during his public battle with depression, and now Jesinta Campbell has candidly revealed she regularly seeks professional help as well to make sure she’s dealing with the issues in her life.

“My experience with mental illness isn’t only just with my fiancé, it’s with my family too, and multiple people in my family,” she tells Be. “I don’t want anyone to ever think that going and seeing a professional diminishes their worth, it’s nothing to be ashamed about."

“I do [see someone], all the time, very regularly,” adds the model. “That’s so important. Sometimes it might go six months and I mightn’t talk to the lady that I talk to, and sometimes it might be every couple of days. It just depends on where I’m at.”

For Jesinta, who opens up on life in the public eye, her romance with Buddy and her changing attitude towards her body in her new book Live A Beautiful Life, she’s finally at a place where she feels comfortable with who she is.

"For people who live in the spotlight, there’s a perception that they don’t go through things in life, or they don’t have challenges. I’m no different to anyone else," she says.

Jesinta also uses exercise as a form of therapy, with the model writing in her book that she hit the gym more than ever when news of Buddy's mental health issues became public in 2015.

“It’s my release, it’s the only hour in the day I have where no one’s taking a photograph of me, I’m not on email, I’m not Jesinta Campbell the personality,” she admits. “I’m in a gym, I’m exactly the same as everyone else.”

But Jesinta is the first to confess she hasn't always had such a good relationship with her body.

After shooting to fame in 2010 when she represented Australia in the Miss Universe competition, the model pushed herself through punishing workouts twice a day.

“You think you’re doing the right thing and that’s what is going to get results,” she explains. “You can overdo it. My skin was breaking out, I was always tired, I was on edge. It wasn’t good for me.”

While whispers of a split have circulated around Jesinta and Buddy for months, the 25-year-old reveals the couple are in no rush to get married, and haven’t set a date yet.

“We’re just focused on getting through the year really,” she says. “It was such a big year last year and [Buddy] really wanted to focus on footy, that was his priority, which I’m so proud of him for, he did such an incredible job – both on and off the field. He just carried himself with so much dignity, I was really proud of him for that.”
