Tim Robards: This is the ultimate tone up workout you need to do
If you’re a strict cardio girl and always have been, it might be time to hop off the treadmill and try something different instead.

According to personal trainer and The Bachelor star Tim Robards, strength training is where it’s at when it comes to getting that lean, toned look like Gigi Hadid and Khloe Kardashian.
“When they talk about strength training or weights, girls say they don’t want to bulk up,” Tim tells Be. “Women don’t really have the testosterone that’s going to make them bulk up like a guy.”
Even more incentive to add strength training into your routine is the way it continues to burn fat, long after you’ve left the gym.
“With things like going for a run or swim, it’s like a mouse running on a treadmill – you’re burning energy while you’re doing it, but once you finish, especially steady state cardio where you’re keeping the same level the whole time – you basically go back to your normal resting metabolic rate, so you’re not burning much extra energy afterwards,” explains Tim.
So what does strength training involve?
“Things like squats, lunges, push and pull type movements, or something like a burpee which combines a lot of movement,” says Tim.
“Compound movements where you’re working a lot of muscles in one go are good, so instead of doing bicep curls, which works one muscle and doesn’t burn a lot of energy, do a chin up or a pull down where you’re working your shoulders, back, shoulder stabilisers and core.”
Tim is about to kickstart his TRM 8 week Summer Body Challenge, with the ultimate transformation winner nabbing themselves a trip to Yosemite in the USA worth $10,000. Entries for the competition close 30 October, find more info here.
