Will royal protocol get in the way of Prince Harry's relationship with Meghan Markle?

It appears that Prince Harry has found a new love and we couldn't be happier from the flame-haired charmer.

Just this week reports emerged that the 32-year-old British royal has been shacking up with Suits actress Meghan Markle for the past six months, with the pair said to be besotted with each other and even sharing friendship bracelets.

And indeed, perhaps the cutest moment so far has been when Meghan posted a picture of two bananas spooning to her Instagram account, the day after the news broke about her and the prince.

However while the world swoons over how ridiculously gorgeous their babies would be, many have been left wondering if Harry could ever actually marry the 35-year-old American actress, as she is a divorcee.

Meghan divorced production company owner Trevor Engelson in 2013 after marrying two years earlier in Jamaica.

While royal laws may have become more lax in the last few years, there have been many famous royal relationships that went sour very fast after the monarchy found out about their future spouse's previous martial history.

Most notable was when the Queen's sister, Margaret, fell deeply in love with Group Captain Peter Townsend, who was a divorced war hero.

Back then, divorce was seen as a mark of shame and as she was a princess they were denied the right to marry.

Under the Royal Marriages Act of 1772, the Queen's consent to the Princess's marriage was necessary until she reached the age of 25 and she asked them to wait a year before marrying, perhaps hoping their flame would diminish.

Princess Margaret released a heartbreaking statement, which read: "I would like it to be known that I have decided not to marry Group Captain Peter Townsend. Mindful that Christian marriage is indissoluble and conscious of my duty to the Commonwealth, I have resolved to put these considerations before others."

Back in the early 1900's Wallis Simpson became known all over the world after Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor, formerly King Edward VIII, abdicated his throne to marry her.

She was divorced and an American socialite and when Edward left his post, the Queen's beloved father George VI was given the title of King.

However we're still holding out hope that Harry and Meghan (Marry for short) will tie the knot some day, as his father and first in line to the throne Prince Charles is married to Camilla Parker Bowles, who was of course married to Andrew Bowles until 1995.

Camilla - who was known for years as the prince's mistress while he was married to Diana - was married to Prince Charles in 2009 so there's hope yet that the Queen will fall in love with Meghan Markle and welcome her into the royal family with open arms.

We might be getting ahead of ourselves here, but the prospect of another royal wedding is just too exciting to hold back.
