The founder of 'Jon Hamm's Wang' reveals the secret to running a well-endowed blog

Jon Hamm is baffled by all the media attention surrounding his package - which is mostly due to the now infamous blog called 'Jon Hamm's Wang'. Started several years ago by an anonymous Aussie blogger, the Tumblr page quickly grew in popularity after the Mad Men actor became publically incensed by it, telling Rolling Stone in 2013, "They're called 'privates' for a reason. I'm wearing pants, for f--k's sake. Lay off. I mean, it's not like I'm a f---ing lead miner. There are harder jobs in the world. But when people feel the freedom to create Tumblr accounts about my cock, I feel like that wasn't part of the deal."

Since then, Hamm has begrudgingly admitted there are worse things in the world to hear about himself, so the blog continues, much to the er, excitement of his fans. Here, its founder tells how she got the idea, and what she thinks of Hamm's reaction to it all.

Q: First things first, why? What on earth prompted you to start the Jon Hamm’s Wang blog?
A: Ha, well it’s definitely not a hobby of mine, I swear. I’m not, like, monitoring the crotches of Hollywood.

Q: Just Jon Hamm.
A: Right. Just him. So back in 2010 a friend of mine were talking about these pics that kept coming up online of Jon Hamm with what looked like, you know, a pretty decent-sized groin. Oh God, even saying this is making me cringe. And I was positive I’d seen a blog which just had photos of him walking around called ‘Jon Hamm’s Wang’. My friend was like, ‘That definitely is not a thing,’ but I was convinced I’d seen it.

Q: Ok so then I’m guessing you Googled this blog?
A: Exactly - but it didn’t exist! To this day I have no idea why I thought it did or what I thought I’d seen. Maybe it came to me in a dream. But yeah, after I searched for it and realised it was a figment of my imagination, I thought, ‘Well, I might as well make it, then’. It was a slow morning at work that day.

Q: And did you want it to become a pop-cultural phenomenon? Was that the goal?
A: God, no. I literally whipped it up from stolen photos for a laugh. It took about ten minutes to put it together, including signing up to Tumblr.

Q: And how much time did you invest in it after that?
A: I didn’t really plan on keeping it going, but it took so little effort, you know? Every time a pic cropped up on the celebrity blogs with poor Jon’s trousers billowing in the breeze I would think ‘Might as well add this one to the list’. I just did it on my phone.

Q: But then in 2013 it started getting some serious traction.
A: Yeah, that was when Rolling Stone did a cover interview with Jon and specifically asked him about the blog – who knows why or how they knew about it – and he fired up massively. He was so pissed off about it and the story went everywhere. It was in all the tabloids and I mean you can see why, because it’s such a crass, funny story. ‘Jon Hamm wants you to stop talking about how huge his dick is’.

Q: How did you feel when this happened?
A: I was… kind of thrilled because yay, viral. And I was also scared that someone would find out it was mine. It would not be a good look for me in my career to publicly have a blog like this. And actually, whenever Jon Hamm talked specifically about the blog and said things like ‘when people feel the freedom to create Tumblr accounts about my cock, I feel like that wasn't part of the deal,’ it made me feel like kind of an asshole.

Q: But you didn’t take it down
A: Yeah no. I still found it too funny. And frankly, the internet is chockablock with websites focusing on women’s bodies and no one seems to get that outraged about those, do they. Jon Hamm can take it, I’m sure. And like he said this week: ‘As rumours go, not the worst.’
