Proving they love a candy cane as much as the rest of us, Prince George and Princess Charlotte have been spotted looking utterly adorable as they attend their first ever church service on Christmas Day.

Dressed in their Sunday best, the young royals were seen clutching their sugary prize after attending mass at St Mark's Church in Englefield, Berkshire.

Along with their parents the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, George, three, and 19-month-old Charlotte were seen with the Middleton family after breaking royal tradition to spend the festive season with them.

It’s the first time the young royals have attended Christmas mass – with the service held at the same church where their aunt Pippa is set to tie the knot next year.

“George and all the others had communion, queued up with everyone else, it was all smiles,” churchgoer Josh Glancy told The Telegraph.

The young royals' outing comes following news the Queen was too ill to attend the Sandringham Christmas Day church service, making it the first time she has missed the service since the family began going in 1988.

"The Queen continues to recover from a heavy cold and will stay indoors to assist with her recovery," a Palace spokesman said in a statement. "Her Majesty will participate in the Royal Family Christmas celebrations during the day."
