Disgusted mum’s rat dropping discovery at play centre

One Melbourne mum has issued a public warning to others after being left horrified by the discovery of rat droppings and insects at a play centre she was at with her children.

The mum shared the photos on Facebook after she alerted staff to the droppings, but was left less-than-impressed when they simply swept the area but didn’t shut it down, or issue warnings to other customers.

“I was at Chipmunks Indoor Playground, Caroline Springs today at 2pm with my 2 girls & niece in the toddler area. My sister moved one of the soft play logs and discovered hundreds of rat droppings and a worm,” the mum wrote in a post earlier this week.

“I, for one, would have been thankful to know there was a rat issue where my kids are playing, being curious little beings they are, putting everything in their mouths.”

“I know how difficult it can be to keep a close eye on your children and it only takes 1 second to place one in their mouth. It can result to serious health concerns.”

The mum went on to report it was a “well known issue” with staff, with ongoing visits from pest control and another mum complaining earlier that morning.

The post has been shared over 1000 times, with the play centre forced to issue an apology explaining they were shutting for two days while they udnerwent professionally cleaning.

“We would like to take a moment and apologise to our dear customers. What happened yesterday [Monday] was something we are very embarrassed and gutted about. We take kids safety very seriously and we are so heartbroken with what happened,” Chipmunks Playland explained.

The mum has since updated her post revealing health officers from the local council have assessed the centre and allowed them to open.

“I would like to end this by encouraging everyone to raise health hazards to the managers and if not dealt with to your satisfaction, to contact the council,” she wrote.
