The royal Christmas traditions Meghan Markle will be doing

Every family has their own Christmas traditions and the royals are no different.

Now that bride-to-be Meghan Markle has scored herself an invite to the exclusive occasion, this is what she can expect to be doing.

Meghan Markle will join the royal family at their Sandringham estate in Norfolk over Christmas, a tradition which un-married partners are not usually allowed to attend, however according to The Times Prince Harry asked his grandmother to make an exception.

Luckily for Meghan the Duchess Kate is reportedly willing to show her the ropes throughout all their scheduled festivities.

"Kate was a bag of nerves the first time she did Christmas with the Royals," a source told the publication. "So she knows exactly how daunting it must be for Meghan."

As for the traditions, presents are given on Christmas eve and are not what you would expect for the royal family.

Instead of expensive gifts the royals like to have a bit of fun by keeping the focus on cheap, humorous gifts. The Duchess gave the Queen chutney one year. Imagine her face opening that!

Christmas day involves a busy schedule starting with a full English breakfast in the morning, followed by a traditional Church service and lunch before watching the Queen's Christmas speech on TV at 3pm.

According to former royal chef, Darren McGrady they stick to the same Christmas lunch every year.

"A salad with shrimp or lobster, and a roasted turkey," Darren said in a previous interview. "And all of your traditional side dishes like parsnips, carrots, brussel sprouts and Christmas pudding with brandy butter for dessert."

In the evening is when the true Christmas spirit comes out as they reportedly celebrate with classic Christmas crackers and games, all while indulging in chocolate and sweets, even the Queen herself.

“The queen is a major chocoholic, particularly dark chocolate,” Darren revealed. "So she always has a chocolate treat on Christmas. She also loves mint."
