The real reason Kate Middleton's not wearing her engagement ring

She may have one of the most coveted engagement rings in the world but Kate Middleton wasn’t wearing hers when she stepped out for a royal engagement yesterday.

The 36-year-old, who was given Princess Diana’s sapphire engagement ring by Prince William when he proposed in 2011, visited Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

However, royal watchers were quick to notice that Kate, who was wearing a red high street Boden coat, had decided to show up at the hospital without the bling on her finger.

Kate was opening Mittal Children’s Medical Centre at the hospital, which provides accommodation and supplies for families with sick children.

And while some people might be concerned the Duchess ditched her engagement ring for the day, it’s thought she was just adhering to the hospital’s policy.

The hospital recommends guests remove any of their jewellry before entering the wards.

It’s also been speculated that perhaps she decided to leave it at home because she might have swollen fingers due to her pregnancy.
