The truth behind how Harry and Meghan really met

Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle officially got together, speculation has been rife about who it was that set them up on their very first “blind date”.

During their first public interview after the engagement Prince Harry said, "We were introduced by a secret friend, who we will protect her privacy.”

And Meghan confirmed it was a blind date and that she “didn’t know much about Harry”.

But that was all we knew. It was a woman.

After rumours it was Meghan’s friend and stylist Jessica Mulroney, or former friend of Harry’s fashion designer Misha Nonoo, the world even pointed to Markus Anderson, who accompanied Meghan and Harry to the Invictus Games in September, as the possible secret friend. Of course, he is a man. So of course, we were wrong.

But now it seems E! News has discovered the truth and, drumroll please…

It was 33-year-old Violet von Westenholz.

Violet has been friends with the Prince since they were teenagers and her father, Baron von Westenholz, is also close to Harry’s father Prince Charles.

Meghan on the other hand reportedly became friends with her through Violet's PR work with Ralph Lauren.

“When Harry told Violet he was having trouble finding someone, Violet said she might just have the perfect girl for him,” a ‘well-placed source’ told E!.

“He can hardly go on Tinder or a dating app like normal people.

“He was ready to meet someone but it was so hard to actually find the right person."

It seems UK media had it right when they suggested the matchmaker was Violet back in November, just days after their engagement.

She was even asked by The Telegraph if that was the case. Her answer should have tipped us all off.

“I might leave that for other people to say (who it is),” she answered at the time.

“It's a great story and I am sure they are going to be very happy together. I am just happy they are really happy. They are great together.”
