Melania Trump racked up an $830k bill in three months

Melania Trump’s been called out for costing taxpayers $830k in flights between New York and the White House, before she officially moved in.

According to The Wall Street Journal in a three-month period between the inauguration and April 2017, Melania Trump racked up a bill of more than $675,000USD in Air Force flights.

She took 21 flights in total while she was still living in New York. She remained there even after husband and new President Donald moved into the White House so that son Barron could finish his year at school.

Air Force jets made at least 19 trips to LaGuardia Airport in New York and nine trips to Florida's Palm Beach International Airport to drop off or pick up Mrs. Trump, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Despite the large sum there is no indication that any of her flights were ‘improper’, despite other members Trump's Cabinet having been scrutinized over their travel on taxpayer dollars.

Just last year here in Australia new rules for federal politicians’ work and travel claims were launched after a string of scandals prompted an overhaul of MPs’ entitlements.

It was all prompted by the scandal surrounding former Health Minister Sussan Ley’s travel to the Gold Coast.

As well as former Speaker Bronwyn Bishop charging taxpayers for a $5227 helicopter flight from Melbourne to a golf course near Geelong for a Liberal Party function.

Ironically Donald Trump often criticised first lady Michelle Obama for her travel, which amounted to more than $2.8 million in eight years.

Or an average of about $350,000 a year — less than half what Melania accrued within the three-month.
