Meghan Markle breaks royal protocol on official visit

Meghan Markle made her first official royal appearance yesterday with Prince William and Kate Middleton.

However, the bride-to-be appeared to break royal protocol during a panel discussion at The Royal Foundation.

Sitting alongside her future in-laws, Meghan discussed the #MeToo movement with BBC broadcaster and journalist Tina Daheley.

“I hear a lot of people speaking about girls’ empowerment and women’s empowerment—you will hear people saying they are helping women find their voices,” Meghan said.

“I fundamentally disagree with that because women don’t need to find their voices, they need to be empowered to use it and people need to be urged to listen.

“Right now with so many campaigns like MeToo and Time’s Up there’s no better time to continue to shine a light on women feeling empowered and people supporting them”

Meghan’s sentiments may be inspiring, however, it’s usually against royal rules to speak out about such a political movement.

The royal family tends to stay impartial on political matters, with Kate Middleton even shunning the black gown dress code at the BAFTA’s last week.

Perhaps exceptions were made in Meghan case due to the fact that she has worked as an actress and no doubt would love the opportunity to speak out about the industry.

Meghan was also photographed holding Harry’s hand during the discussion, which she has been snapped doing on many royal visits since they went public with their relationship.

Public displays of affection are historically frowned upon in the royal family, however it looks like Meghan is bringing about a well-needed change.
