Unsuspecting couple caught in royal baby media frenzy
In the hours prior to the royal baby's arrival, the eyes of the entire world were fixated on the door of the Lindo Wing ward at St. Mary’s Hospital in London, as we waited for news of Kate Middleton and the new prince.
But one unsuspecting couple looked like they completely missed the royal baby memo, and seemed to be taken off guard when they tried to leave the hospital with their newborn baby, only to be greeted by hundreds of waiting photographers.
The couple were snapped smiling awkwardly as they stood on the top of the staircase, the exact same place where Kate Middleton and Prince William gave us the first glimpse of their third child just a matter of hours later.
Beaming from ear-to-ear, the couple posed for photographers, dressed casually with their newborn tucked up in a car seat.
Their appearance at the Lindo Wing door came just hours before Kensington Palace released a statement revealing the Duchess of Cambridge had given birth to a baby boy.
“Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs. The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz," the statement read.
It added that Prince William was present for the birth and that both his and Kate's families were 'delighted' by the news of his arrival.
Kate was admitted to hospital just before 6AM local time, and was able to be discharged from hospital with her new baby later that day.
It’s thought that the Duchess was hoping to have a natural birth and had decided to stick with royal tradition and not find out the sex of the baby until it’s born.
For the past two weeks, royal fans had camped outside the hospital with the hope of catching a glimpse of the royals.
One woman told the BBC she couldn’t think of a better way to honour the family she loves so much.
"I love the royals - I read about them growing up in Jamaica," she said, "My wish was that I could one day come to England to see the Queen."
