Deaf woman shares memorable drive-thru experience

There are things that we take for granted, that can be a frustrating experience for people with hearing difficulties. Case in point: ordering food from a drive-thru window.

However as one US-based woman discovered, her local Starbucks is doing what it can to make things a bit easier for the deaf community. Rebecca King from Florida posted the above video on her Facebook page with the post 'Starbucks! This is what I'm talking about!...Share it away! We can change the world!' The video, which has been viewed over 7.7 million times to date, shows King ordering at a Starbucks drive thru.

"Hi, welcome to Starbucks," the woman says over the intercom. "What can we get started for you today?" After a moment of silence, a barista appears on the telecom screen. King starts communicating with the barista in sign language, to which she replies right back.

Speaking to news outlet First Coast News, King said "It is a big deal to [the] deaf community that Starbucks has one now. We all want to have that at every drive thru in the world."

It's a heart-warming video, and here's hoping we see it kick off in drive-thru windows across Australia too.
