28-year-old Texas man Kent Stephenson was able to stand and spin his new wife on the dance floor thanks to an experimental implant in his spine.

Stephenson was paralysed after a motocross accident in 2009, but "wanted to be able to stand for part of the ceremony", wedding photographer Allix Ruby told ABC News.

He took part in experimental procedures from the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, which included putting an electrical implant in his spine that transmits low electrical currents to stimulate the nerves.

A family friend helped create a special stand for Kent so he could stand during the ceremony, and watch his fiancé Misti Richeson walk down the aisle.

"Everybody was crying, everything went silent but all you could hear is people crying," Ruby revealed.

Later in the evening, Stephenson was able to take his new wife for a spin on the dance floor thanks to the special stand.

"I don’t always shoot stories this powerful but everybody’s wedding day is this important and I just felt so honoured to be there and be the one behind the camera,” said the pair's wedding photographer.
