Why this photo of a mum wearing an adult nappy is going viral

When Amanda Bacon uploaded a very raw image of herself in an adult nappy after giving birth, she didn’t expect it to go viral.

The photo, taken by Bacon’s husband as their newborn nestles in his arms, perfectly sums up the realities of motherhood.

“This is motherhood; it's raw, stunning, messy, and freaking hilarious all rolled into one. Having a baby is a beautiful experience, and the realities of postpartum life aren't spoken enough about,” the mum captioned the image.

Despite the funny sight, it certainly gives parents and parents-to-be a reality check.

Many were outraged when Kate Middleton stepped out of hospital looking too polished just hours after giving birth to Princess Charlotte. On the other hand, Chrissy Teigan has been praised for getting real about her pregnancy journey with baby Luna.

Unfortunately, celebrities receive backlash when they choose to only share one side of motherhood via social media, as those online find it difficult to relate to their “perfect” pregnancies.

Bacon’s raw and refreshing take on motherhood reminds us that we should embrace every aspect of pregnancy, whether it’s glamorous or far from.

“We all should try and educate, empower and embrace every aspect of childbirth, including moments like this. And do it while having a sense of humour,” the mum-of-two wrote.

With more than 126K likes and 100K comments, Bacon’s controversial post has been showered with praise.

One Facebook user said, “Thanks for posting hun. Women all over need to know the true reality of childbirth because not all ladies are lucky.x”

Another concurred, “There are definitely aspects of motherhood that aren't pretty! But this is what we do!”
