Dr Oz reveals shocking danger behind wearing waist trainers

Dr Oz has revealed exactly what he thinks of the waist trainers that are much-loved by the Kardashians, Snooki and Chrissy Teigen.

Speaking today on the Fitzy & Wippa Show, Dr Oz claimed they're unhealthy as they actually move your organs around in your body while you're wearing them.

“I have had some of the Kardashians on. It’s an interesting phenomenon that they do work as they re-shape your waist but I don’t think they are healthy. Now here’s why," he said.

"I did a medical scan of someone who had one of these corsets on.

"They literally mould your ribs, shift your ribs they sort of crush your ribs into your liver. So they are moving your internal organs around. It’s like the woman from Africa with the rings around the neck, it’s the same thing."

Dr Oz said that if you insist on wearing a waist trainer that you only wear it for a limited amount of time and make sure to take it off at the end of the day.

"If you are going to reshape your insides not the way they were made and you are going to crush your ribs into your liver at least wear them six hours or so – wear them to an event they will shape you while you are there and then take them off," he said.

After Chrissy Teigen admitted that she wore a waist trainer to get back in shape after the birth of her daughter, Luna, Gina Sam, MD, an assistant professor of gastroenterology at Mount Sinai Health System, set the record straight about what the trendy body-shapers actually do.

“They’re similar to a corset, where they restrict the waist,” Sam told Yahoo Beauty, explaining that most women “do just fine” with a little extra support around the middle.

“Some claim you will lose body fat while using a waist-trainer, and that is not true. There is no research to support that.”

Some experts, like Ruben Soto, CEO of HourglassAngel.com, say that the waist trainer does carry multiple benefits, including some weight loss potential.

“Results vary from person to person, but waist training has several benefits,” Soto said.

“You get an instant hourglass shape the second you put it on. It’s also a great complement for a healthy lifestyle that can help you feel confident and keep you motivated with your diet and fitness.”

He also said that many waist trainers “stimulate thermal activity in your core, so you sweat harder during runs, workouts and other exercises.”

California woman Sara Hawes filed a $5 million class action suit against the company Waist Gang Society in March.

She claimed Waist Gang Society was grossly misleading customers into thinking its products could help users shed pounds, when actually the products — which range from $39 to $160 — redistribute weight to other parts of the body, giving the appearance of a slimmer waist.

However the suit was reportedly settled and allegations against the company were dismissed.
