This woman's photos are proof weight is terrible at determining your health

Many of us avoid stepping foot on the scales in fear of finding out the number that will pop up like an estranged aunt at a party.

No matter how much fibre you’ve ingested, you always end up feeling disappointed - sending you back to the freezer for some good ol’ comforting ice cream and the cycle starts again.

Well, good news, because you needn’t fear the bathroom scales nor whatever that number is you weigh anymore.

Fitness blogger Kelsey Wells of My Sweat Life posted a powerful trio of images to Instagram that went viral.

The three body shots are of Wells at different weights and body shapes. The first image is of her at 65.7 kilograms, the second is of her at 55.3 kilograms and the last at 63.5 kilograms.

In the latest picture weighing in at 63.5 kilograms, Wells doesn’t only look fitter and has more muscle definition but she weighs eight kilograms more than when she was at her slimmest.

“Stop getting hung on the number on the stupid scales! Please stop thinking your weight equals your progress and for the love of everything please stop letting your weight have any affect whatsoever on your self esteem,” she captioned the image.

While Wells achieved her goal weight in the middle image and was able to fit into those skinny jeans again, she couldn’t keep up and fell off the bandwagon in no time.

After gaining 22.6 kilograms during her pregnancy, Wells decided to pick up Kayla Itsines’s Bikini Body Guide (BBG) program and the results over 18 months have been life changing for the mother of one.

“If I didn't say #screwthescale long ago, I would have gave up on my journey,” interior designer said.

“I finally learned to start measuring my progress by things that matter -- strength, ability, endurance, health, and HAPPINESS.”

Since sticking to BBG for 84 weeks, Wells claims her body composition has changed completely compared to when she was eight kilos lighter and looking slimmer.

“I have never had more muscle and less body fat than I do now. I have never been healthier than I am now. I have never been more comfortable in my own skin than I am now,” the body-image role model wrote.

The moral of the story is: #ScrewTheScale! Stop beating yourself up for not weighing that “ideal” weight and as Wells recommends given her success, replace measuring your progress on the scales with things that truly determine your health.
