This is how many hours sleep you need to boost your salary

Successful people don’t need a lot of sleep, or that’s what we’ve been told anyway. Martha Stewart? She powers down for four hours a night. Donald Trump? He’s not big on sleep, admitting: “I like three hours, four hours, I toss, I turn, I beep-de-beep, I want to find out what’s going on.”

Now, a study by US researchers has found that this might not be the recipe for everyday salary success, with findings that more sleep might actually earn you more moolah.

The study found that locations where the days were shorter (so the sun set earlier) saw people sleep for longer, but also have higher salaries.

With an extra hour of sleep every week linked to a salary increase of 1.5 percent in the short term, and by 4.9 percent in the long term, this is pretty good news for those who hate the snooze button.

According to researchers, the reasoning behind this is pretty simple: well-rested workers result in increased productivity.

“The biggest effects come through employees who work on commission,” one of the study’s authors, Jeffrey Shrader told The Guardian. “If you go to work well rested, you are livelier and happier, and can sell more to increase your earnings.”

If you’re one of those people who just can’t say no to a late-night Netflix binge, research shows that having a 30 minute nap in the afternoon can undo some of your bad work in the night.
