Bone broth icy poles are a thing

Last year we saw health gurus wash back bucket loads of bone broth and this year we’re seeing them suck on frozen versions of the nutritious meal.

Springbone Kitchen in New York City is doing whatever it takes to bring back bone broth, one icy pole at a time.

The clean eating cafe has been selling the clear, nutrient-dense soup to health conscious customers for quite some time, but hot and hearty broth during the summer months or post workout isn’t ideal.

The eatery’s owner, Jordan Feldman, told the NY Post he and his team were in the process of developing cold beef both when they thought of turning it into popsicles.

“We tried some cold broth, but we had to dilute [it], otherwise it’s too gelatinous — it’s like Jell-O. It took away a lot of the flavour … Then we thought, ‘Let’s freeze it.’”

Feldman became obsessed with the collagen-packed liquid after getting into drinking it after a knee injury. He would drink a few cups a day and eventually his knee healed.

Now, Feldman swears by the soup and is excited he’s created a new way for customers to enjoy the gelatinous broth.

Made using beef both, coconut milk, pomegranate juice, raspberry puree and a hint of maple sugar, the meaty red icy poles apparently hardly taste of meat.

“It’s a little bit sweet,” he said. “[The meat] is there, but it’s totally overwhelmed by the other flavours,” he claims.
Springbone’s beef broth ice blocks have so far been a hit in the big city.

“If they have new creative ways to consume [broth], I’m in,” one customer said.

As the weather warms up in Australia, who’s to say someone won’t pick this health food craze up and start selling them across our white sandy beaches alongside Golden Gaytime and Splices?

Brace yourself for a meaty summer ahead!
