If you’re working on your spring body, but things aren’t exactly going to plan because you can’t stop EATING ALL THE FOOD, then you might need to take a look at something other than your diet.

Netflix

No judgement if your idea of an exciting Friday night is Netflix and Deliveroo dropping off some Thai. But eating in front of the TV or while you’re binging on Suits can create an association between screen time and snack time.

“If you do this enough times, then every single time you go to watch something, your body gets told that we’re hungry,” says Lyndi.

The same goes if you have a habit of relaxing on the couch after dinner with dessert. “You’ll notice after a long day when you come home, you finish dinner and sit in front of the TV, around that time each night you start to feel the sugar cravings coming on,” adds Lyndi.

Being dehydrated

“We’re often told that when we’re dehydrated we can confuse that with feeling hungry, so alternately it’s ideal to have a drink of water before every single meal,” advises Lyndi.

When it comes to exactly how much H2O we should be downing each day, it’s all about checking your pee, says Lyndi. “If you can smell it and it’s a bright yellow colour – and you haven’t had Berocca – then it’s probably a good sign to up your water intake.”

Avoid the colour red

Strange but research says it’s true: people who see the colour red find themselves hungrier, while those exposed to blue found it had the opposite effect. Top tip: avoid decorating your kitchen with red tones, and make sure the colour of your desktop background won’t stimulate your appetite too.

Lack of sleep

“When you don’t get enough sleep it plays havoc with your hormones. It genuinely boosts the hunger signals in your brain,” explains Lyndi. “The other thing is you’ll feel as if you need to get energy and the most effective way to get energy when you don’t have time to sleep is to reach for the chocolate.”
