What experts really say about Hailey Baldwin’s metabolic detox

It might seem like an incredibly glamourous life, but when it comes to models prepping for Fashion Week, there must be a serious amount of pressure to look good.

So when Hailey Baldwin stepped out at New York Fashion Week flaunting the most ridiculous set of abs, everyone wanted to know exactly what she’d been doing.

"Right now, I'm on a metabolic detox," Hailey told PeopleStyle. "I'm trying to reset my body before I get into the craziness of all this traveling and running around."

Hailey revealed she had been on the detox for 10 days, saying: "It's like a cleanse that you have to do with like protein powder and all this different stuff and you have to eat a certain type of way. I eat healthy regardless but it's very much more scaled down."

But while it’s something that’s clearly worked for her, how safe is a metabolic detox and should we all be jumping on the bandwagon?

Be spoke to Pip Reed, co founder of TheHealthClinic.com.au, who explained exactly what’s involved.

“A metabolic detox is basically a more in depth version of a detox,” says Pip. “It specifically focuses on what’s called the metabolic pathway. That includes your lungs, liver, gut, and kidneys.”

While Hailey admits she already eats fairly healthy foods, this kind of detox would see her follow a completely clean diet, reveals Pip.

“Think loads of veggies and fruit – all organic,” says Pip. “It would be a very alkaline diet, with no dairy, probably lots of fish, nuts and seeds.”

While Pip admits this kind of detox can be beneficial, there are some important things to take note of. Most importantly, you need a practitioner to guide you with a specialised plan. There’s also some side effects you need to be aware of.

“Some people can get skin breakouts, nausea, headaches, lethargy and fatigue,” explains Pip. “With detoxes, you’ve got to be really careful when you do them because if your immune system is low, it could make it worse.”

Like Hailey though, there is a payout at the end of your detox. Not only will you feel and sleep better, you can expect to look good too (although no promises you’ll look Hailey Baldwin good).

“You lean out and lose fluid as well,” says Pip. “You’d probably expect to lose any puffiness and any fluid retention going on.”
