4 signs you’re wearing the wrong size bra

Is there anything more uncomfortable than a bra that doesn’t fit? As if wearing a chest contraption to keep your girls in check wasn’t awkward enough, you have to deal with painful underwire, slipping straps, and that annoying itchy bit where the tag is.

Add to this the fact 80 percent of women are said to wear the wrong size bra (yep, really) and an inability to adjust yourself in public, and you’ve got a recipe for lingerie disaster.

Convinced you’re a 12B but find you steer clear of underwire bras because they’re just so uncomfortable?

“I find a lot of ladies come in and they want to wear a non-wire bra because the wires digging in,” explains Paula. “The wire’s digging in because you’re wearing the wrong size.”

Another tip: when you get home from work today, try turning around before you take off your bra to see where the band is sitting on your back.

“Riding up the back means you wear your bra too big,” reveals Paula.

Are you one of those women who is forever fiddling with a wayward bra strap?

“Shoulder straps coming off means you’re wearing it too big in the diaphragm,” says Paula.

And for those who have chalked down that sore neck to a bad night’s sleep or staring too long at the computer, these are likely culprits, but you might also want to get fitted by a professional to rule out bra issues.

“A lot of women get back and neck pain because they’re not wearing the right size because the weight of a breast is very heavy and women don’t actually realise that,” says Paula.

For supermodel Jess Hart, who is the face of Triumph's Triaction Sports Bra, getting fitted for a sports bra is just as important.

"For me, my biggest problem is I have low-set breasts and a lot of sports bras are non-adjustable so without having that, I’m always falling out the bottom and it’s so uncomfortable," she says. "I can’t run, if I stretch up they come out the bottom."
