Forget everything you ever thought about finding the love of your life.
That’s right - it’s not about looks or ambition, or finding someone who always puts the toilet seat down.
According to experts, there’s one telltale sign you and your partner will last the distance.
That sign is none other than a sense of humour, but not just any old kind of funny will do.
According to relationship expert James Preece, aka The Dating Guru, an ‘affiliative’ humour is what you should be seeking when sussing out those Tinder dates.
“This is the type of humour that boosts happiness, well-being and brings people together. It's all about finding common ground with shared stories and anecdotes,” James tells the Daily Mail.
“When you can both laugh about things together then you'll naturally bond and be a stronger couple.”
The Dating Guru is onto something here.
A 2014 study looked to 136 participants in relationships and the four different types of humour people used: affiliative, self-enhancing, aggressive and self-defeating.
It found that those couples who scored well on the use affiliative humour were more likely to stay together.
“When this is in alignment, you'll be able to see the funny side of most situations and generally be more relaxed about what life may throw at you,” adds James
“Any arguments can be diffused and you'll appreciate each other much more.”
