Here's what wearing deodorant really does to your body

Deodorant is that one product that almost everyone just refuses to leave home without.

Whether you live in the tropics or you're fiercely battling the elements on your way to work, the little aerosol is usually the first thing you'll reach for before putting on your clothes each morning.

Not only does it stop you from sweating throughout the day, but it also smells like a burst of freshness in a can and who doesn't want that when they wake up?

However a new report has found that traditional aerosols and roll-on deodorants could actually be really harmful to your body.

According to D News our beloved deodorants that work by blocking sweat from escaping our bodies (which causes body odor) could actually shift the level microbium (good bacteria) in our skin.

Microbium are there to protect us from being infected by bad bacteria, so while you may be eliminating the smell of B.O., you could also be leaving yourself more susceptible to being stuck down by a virus.

And while you may be loyal to your favourite brand of deodorant, a lot of experts have claimed that making your own at home could be the best option.

A lot of plants contain their very own antibacterial powers so you can make your own quite easily by following some online recipes.

It's also been reported that you should change your deodorant brand from time-to-time as you can actually become immune to it.

"It's a good idea to switch up your deodorant brand every six months to prevent resistance," Dr. Han Lee, assistant professor of dermatology at the University of Southern California, told Men's Health.
