It’s the show that famously sees everyday people lose incredible amounts of weight, and we’re used to seeing The Biggest Loser contestants tip the scales at hundreds of kilos.
This season is a little different though, with the focus being on transforming people’s lives with realistic weight loss goals – but it looks like fans aren’t sold on the idea.
It’s seen viewers questioning whether one contestant, Nikki, should even be on the show.
In the first episode, the 25-year-old mum reveals how her body insecurities have impacted her relationship with her beach-loving partner, Kyle.
“I have never been on the beach in the bikini in my life. I hate my body, I hate the way I look,” Nikki explained through tears.
“I just hate my body and I hate the way I look. I’ve been with my partner for three years and he still hasn’t seen me naked.
“My insecurities make him feel like I don’t love him.”
With Nikki’s starting weight revealed as 78.1kg – seven kilos over the average Aussie female weight of 71.1kg - fans were quick to comment on Nikki’s journey and whether she should have been selected for the show.
“Bit more realistic weight loss routine with the contestants hopefully being able to keep it off... although a 78kg lady??? What about all the really overweight people who need help?” commented one on The Biggest Loser Facebook page.
“78.1kg??????? That's my goal weight!” added another. “I'm 20kg heavier than the first contestant!!!! LAME!”
Despite this, other viewers have leapt to Nikki’s defence.
“I can really relate with your story,” wrote one. “You got this girl!”
“You are a fantastic motivator for your team. Go girl! You are already beautiful inside and out even if you can't see it yet,” wrote another.
