Gwyneth Paltrow’s bonkers Goop expo

Those buying a ticket to Gwyneth Paltrow’s first-ever ‘In Goop Health’ wellness summit earlier this week had a pretty good idea what they were in for.

Notorious for the controversial health practices featured on her Goop website such as jade eggs (for your lady parts) and vaginal steaming, Gwyneth’s not your normal wellness guru.

But even the actress’ most devoted followers were left wanting after forking out up to $2000 to attend the wellness expo, with reports of long lines to see Goop-endorsed "shamans" and people walking out of talks by Gwyneth’s personal physician, Dr Habib Sadeghi.

According to attendee and The Guardian journalist Lindy West, the physician covered a broad and bizarre range of topics.

“He [talked] for an hour about ‘cosmic flow’; his left testicle; the ‘magnificence’ of Gwyneth (‘I’ve been down and I’ve touched her feet … and I’ll do it again’); and his belief that 'consciousness precedes phenotypic expression',” Lindy wrote.

“[This] means, basically, that all ailments are on some level psychosomatic and your ovarian cysts are really just little nodules of emotion – or something.”

Dr Sadeghi also spoke candidly on Gwyneth’s personal medical ailments including her recurrent urinary tract infections and an ovarian cyst, with audience members reportedly seen leaving the talk.

“About 50 women, most exasperated, streamed out during his lecture, and it’s not hard to see why,” wrote New York Post journalist Maureen Callahan.

“After plugging his forthcoming book, Sadeghi wrapped it up. ‘This is not a convention,’ he said. ‘It’s a pilgrimage. We are here to hold the light, the consciousness, for a different way of being.’"

With the expo held in a huge industrial space in LA, attendees were treated to consultations with shamans, able to have their aura photographed, take in the oxygen bar, IV drip station, and blow some cash at the Goop Marketplace selling $130 branded hoodies and $45 water bottles.

But for Gwyn, who called in pals Cameron Diaz, Miranda Kerr and Nicole Richie for a star-studded discussion panel, even she doesn’t necessarily go for what Goop endorses.

The 44-year-old was brutally honest when questioned by TV host Jimmy Kimmel about the practice of ‘earthing’ earlier this month.

"One of the things we like to do on Goop is find what the alternative world says about feeling good in the modern-day world," Gwyn tried to explain.

"So, earthing – I don't actually know that much about earthing. It came out of me not knowing anything about earthing, but hearing about it."

"They say that we lost touch with sort of being barefoot in the earth, and there's some sort of electromagnetic thing that we're missing. It's good to take your shoes off in the grass."

At that point, even Gwyn gave up, admitting,"I don't know what the f'''''' we talk about!"
