Why Roxy became 'obsessed' with working out

Roxy Jacenko admits her training regime became an obsession, but one that has helped her get through her toughest year.

With two young children to look after, a husband in jail, and a shock diagnosis of breast cancer, getting to the gym wouldn’t be at the top of everyone’s priorities.

But the PR queen says it was the cancer diagnosis that started her on the path of health and fitness.

“I started training because I was diagnosed with breast cancer and it became an obsession,” Roxy tells Be.

“I couldn’t possibly miss a session, if I did, the guilt would be terrible and eating wise, I became very regimented.”

At the time of her diagnosis in July 2016, Roxy says her oncologist suggested that with radiation treatment, it was important for her to start exercising regularly.

But with her husband Oliver Curtis also behind bars it eventually became more a way of escaping everything else going on in her life.

“I don’t know if I would say it was a coping mechanism but it was 45 minutes per day where I would forget about things and worry about how many kilos I could lift,” she tells us.

“I found it very challenging to manage everything and have a smile on my face. Then you add everyone willing to offer their two cents worth about you and it’s pretty confronting but if anything it pumps you up even more to keep going.”

Speaking to Today Extra, Roxy says she obsessively went to the gym and dieted while Oliver was in prison because she was "miserable".

“That's why I put all of my energy into gym. I became this obsessive gym person and obsessive eating person,” she said.

Regardless of why she started, the head of Sweaty Betty PR and ENJO ambassador, has definitely become motivation for anyone looking for some ‘fitspo’.

Roxy credits her look to training five days a week - three days with personal trainer Dan Adair doing weights/resistance training and the other two involve cardio sessions at F45.
