Aussie unrecognisable after 90kg weight loss

Daniel Trajovski lost an incredible 87kgs through diet and exercise but was left with so much sagging excess skin he still didn’t feel confident.

The Sydney man looks completely unrecognisable, but couldn’t face taking his shirt off until he had almost 5kgs of skin removed this year.

“I got to the point where I was looking fit, athletic but had this excess skin, but it took me another year to convince myself to do the surgery, I’d tried everything else,” Daniel tells Be.

“Now I feel 100 per cent!”

Daniel says binge eating and laziness throughout his teenage years saw him tip the scales at 175kgs.

But five years ago, the 28-year-old, finally found the motivation to lose weight when he spotted a suit he desperately wanted to wear for his birthday.

“It only came in 4XL, but at the time I was a 6/7XL. So I bought it and said it was about time to change,” he tells us.

Launching himself into research about diet, exercise and how the body works, Daniel put together his own diet and exercise regime that saw him lose 50kgs within seven months.

Daniel, who featured on This Time Next Year, says diet played the biggest role in his weight loss, but also little tricks things you can do every day to help.

“For example if you’re drinking water make sure it’s colder. When you’re at work, instead of walking to the first kitchen walk to another kitchen that’s further away if you have options,” he says.

After two years Daniel had reached the 100kg mark but was ‘trapped’ in his excess skin. But it took another year for him to convince himself to have surgery.

The plastic surgeon that finally ‘unlocked’ the ‘new’ Daniel was Dr Jeremy Hunt, member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgery, who says surgery for males is becoming increasingly more acceptable.

“Currently 1 in 10 patients are male, however, if the trend continues we will no doubt see numbers increase,” Dr Hunt tells Be.

To remove his excess skin, Daniel underwent a procedure to correct his 'man boobs' and lift the bottom half of his body. Through male chest surgery his nipple was moved approximately eight centimetres and back onto his pec. (You can find out more about his surgical journey in the video above.)

Now Daniel weighs 83kgs and has finally found his confidence.

“It’s changed my life, I’m more confident, I don’t have to check shirts wondering if my chest or my side rolls will hang out, or something will look strange,” he says.

“A few weeks ago I was in Europe and when I got to the beach my family looked at me and without a word of hesitation I took my shirt off, and by the end of the trip people were complaining for me to put my shirt back on.”

Dr Hunt says seeing the change in his patients is one of the most rewarding aspects of his profession.

“It feels good to change a life for the better, it is what we are in essence trained to do as Doctors,” Dr Hunt tells us.

“The field I work in is all about quality of life, and allowing people to embrace the things that we take for granted such as simply taking off your shirt, is massively rewarding.”

In the hopes of inspiring others, Daniel is looking to release his diet and exercise plan for others to follow in the coming weeks.

“One quote that stuck with me is ‘a goal without a plan is just a wish’. So be prepared, you will have off-days but just keep pushing,” he says.
