Drink this surprise thing for 84 minutes extra sleep

If you’re one of those people that really struggles to get to sleep, researchers might have just stumbled on a magical sleep elixir that can help you clock up more zzz’s.

A new study by Louisiana State University examined eight insomniacs and found there was one drink that helped them extend theirshut eye by up to 84 minutes.

The insomniacs were given Montmorency tart cherry juice twice a day – downing some during the day and then again before they hit the hay.

If you’re not sure, Montmorency are a variety of sour cherry that’s grown in the US, Canada and France.

According to the Sun, the juice from these cherries said to reduce the levels of kynurenine, which “contribute to sleep disturbances,” with findings claim the drinkers slept over an hour longer.

“Insomnia is quite common among older adults and it can lead to a range of health issues if left untreated,” said research professor Jack Losso.

“However, many people are hesitant to resort to medications to help them sleep. That's why natural sleep remedies are increasingly of interest and in demand.”

With other natural remedies such as sticking to a daily schedule, trying essential oils such as jasmine and lavender before bed, and making sure your bedroom is cool and dark enough to sleep, it might be worth taking the cherry juice study with a grain of salt.

The Daily Mail reports the study was part funded by the Cherry Marketing Institute, and with the research only focusing on eight subjects, don’t be worried if the cherry juice trick doesn’t work for you!
