Why you should never drink coffee on an empty stomach
If you tend to me the kind of person who has a coffee first thing and then deals with life, then you may have to stop what you’re doing.
While coffee is a daily necessity for some people but drinking it on an empty stomach can have some serious side effects.
Studies have shown that if there is no food in you, the caffeine will start making your stomach produce acid.
Without food there to soak it up, the acid can cause damage to your stomach’s lining, which can also cause indigestion and heartburn.
To make it worse, the other symptoms associated with drinking coffee are heightened when your stomach is empty. Tremors, heart-raching, jitters and anxiety may affect you more.
Another reason not to drink it first thing is because it messes with your circadian rhythm and your cortisol levels – which are what peaks and can wake you up naturally around 8am-9am.
And it turns out that caffeine and your cortisol levels are not a good mix. Caffeine actually reduces its effects meaning you'll need to drink more and more coffee to feel that jolt, and your body will become more and more dependent.
When it comes to working in with your body naturally, the best time for your morning cuppa is 10am.
So, next time eat some breakfast before getting your daily fix.
