At Starlight, laughter is a big part of what we do to help seriously ill children. But we can't do it without your help!
Starlight Children's Foundation Australia has launched a nationwide appeal for 4,000 volunteers who will play a vital role in making Starlight Day, its major annual fundraising event, bigger and better than ever before.
Starlight Day is on Friday May 2 and volunteers are needed to sell Starlight Day merchandise at venues throughout regional and metropolitan Australia. Volunteers are essential to the success of Starlight Day, particularly this year with the fundraising goal a record-breaking $2 million.
Each year there are over 600,000 child admissions made to hospitals across Australia. Today, Starlight can only reach '1 in 3' of these children. Starlight's ultimate goal is to enable each and every child access to their programs.
"Living with serious illness causes enormous strain in the lives of children and their families. This often means that the everyday joys of childhood take a backseat to the stress of treatment and isolation. Starlight delivers programs to seriously ill children that restore the happiness and laughter that illness takes away. However, to enable Starlight to make a positive difference in the lives of even more seriously ill children, we need the support of volunteers this Starlight Day." Starlight CEO, Jill Weekes said.
You can also support Starlight Day by hosting a Star Party. The Starlight Children's Foundation is calling on anyone who is planning a get together with friends, family or colleagues during May to make it a 'Star Party' to raise much-needed funds for seriously ill and hospitalised children.
A Star Party can be anything from a Sunday BBQ to a regular mother's meeting, kid's party or Black Tie cocktail party, with raising funds as simple as asking for donations from guests. Raffles, silent auction and games are other fun ways to raise money.
You can't help but feel great the morning after a Star Party, that's because throwing one helps us to raise the funds we need to bring happiness to seriously ill children.
