Woman live-streams her whole birth

A woman decided to live stream her whole birth in front of thousands of followers after fearing she may have contracted the Zika virus.

Rebecca Meldrum, a.k.a. Mrs Meldrum, took to the Channel Mum Facebook page to update everyone on her birth over a series of seven live videos.

Rebecca had gone through countless complications with her pregnancy and doctors decided to induce her labour at 36-weeks, over fears her unborn daughter wasn’t growing in the womb.

The mum - who already has two daughters and a massive Instagram following of over 39,000 people - feared she may have contracted the Zika virus after falling pregnant just a few weeks after returning from a family holiday to Florida, which is a Zika-infected zone.

Rebecca started off the videos in an upbeat mood in the car on the way to the hospital.

“I’m not one for getting nervous but goodness me, I am feeling all the nerves,” she said in the video.

“I’m just going to try and laugh all the way through it.”

Update two saw Rebecca strapped up to the machine in the hospital during the first stage of her induction.

“Hopefully there will be an end in sight. Nothing really is happening yet, I’m a bit crampy, my cervix has opened which is good news,” she said.

“I imagine I’m going to have a long night on this ward before there’s much else to update you all on.”

By update three, Rebecca’s contractions had started and she began to remember the pain she felt during her first two labours.

“I am contracting frequently and it’s sore,” she said.

“I forgot what it actually feels like, it’s like one of things you forget. I didn’t think I had forgot the pain but I definitely had. I think the pain was less brutal in my head.”

Everything seemed to be going smoothly for Rebecca, however in her next update she reveals that about half an hour after the last video her contractions just stopped.

“Half an hour after the last update they just stopped, like completely stopped,” she said.

“All through the night I have barely had a twinge.”

She said she was up most of the night because most of the other women on her ward were coming and going, most of them with their new baby’s in their arms.

By update six Rebecca was off to have a C-section and couldn’t help but break down crying as she filled her followers in.

“I am not favourable that this baby is not coming out any other way other than my tummy so I’m having a section,” she said.

“It’s just a bit scary,” she said through tears

The next video shows Rebecca in the ward after the operation.

“Hello it’s Rebecca, I am no longer pregnant” she said.

“The baby’s gone to neonatal because she needs help with her breathing.

“She’s on oxygen, she’s being sent for a chest scan and she is struggling to maintain her temperature.”

Rebecca goes on to reveal that she’s very “sensitive” to medication and she shook “violently” throughout the whole operation.

Taking to Facebook, the exhausted new mum said the two day induced labour has really taken it out of her.

“Baby girl is being cared for by the neonatal team, I've been to see her twice & whilst I know it's absolutely the best place for her to be it's just heartbreaking not having her by my side & not being able to hold her,” she wrote.

“I managed to slap a smile on and call the girls to tell them their sister had arrived & they were very excited.

“We won't be having them to the hospital to visit, I miss them both so much but neonatal isn't the place for them & seeing me at the moment wouldn't be good for them either.”

She thanked the whole team at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital and all the people who followed her live-stream.
